The Maori called the stone Pounamu, which liberally translated means Green Stone, The settlers ignorant of the fact that the stone was in fact nephrite Jade, put the two words together and gave it the distinctive name - Greenstone and it is still known in New Zealand by this name.
The piece measures approx 70mm (2.75 inches) long by 20mm (0.8 inch) wide. It comes with a black adjustable cord and a meaning card.
