Lashed Bone Fish Hook Hei Matau Pendant with Paua Highlights

A hand carved lashed maori hei matau / Fish hook bone pendant. The pendant comes on a black plaited waxed adjustable cord with a bone toggle. The cord has been lashed on to the pendant. The pendant features a Paua shell highlight. The pendant also comes with a meaning card.

This pendant is a one off and will not be available again.

Size: The piece measures 58mm (2 1/4 inches) long by 35mm (1 3/8 inch) wide and 7mm (1/4 inches) deep.

Fish Hook / Hei Matau

There have been many forms to depict the hook of Maui. Maori legend tells of how Maui fished up the North Island of New Zealand using his magical hook. Today the matau (hook) is worn for good luck, bringing the wearer peace, prosperity and good health. The matau is also said to provide a safe journey across water.
