Stained Bone Fish Hook Hei Matau Pendant

A hand carved stained maori hei matau / Fish hook bone pendant featuring scrimshaw. The pendant comes on a black plaited waxed adjustable cord. The pendant has been stained to emhance the carving. The pendant also comes with a meaning card.

This pendant is a one off and will not be available again.

Size: The piece measures 55mm (2 1/8 inches) long by 35mm (1 3/8 inch) wide and 7mm (1/4 inches) deep.

Fish Hook / Hei Matau

There have been many forms to depict the hook of Maui. Maori legend tells of how Maui fished up the North Island of New Zealand using his magical hook. Today the matau (hook) is worn for good luck, bringing the wearer peace, prosperity and good health. The matau is also said to provide a safe journey across water.
