Tangiwai Greenstone Teardrop Pendant
This greenstone pendant is a one off piece and will not be available again.
Size:
The pendant measures 52mm (2.05 inches) long by 15mm (0.6 inch) wide and 7mm (.3 inches) thick.
This teardrop / drop style pendant has been carved from Tangiwai greenstone from the Takaka River in the north of the south island of New Zealand.
The piece is full of character from a very beautiful stone.
The piece was carved in Blenheim, which is located at the top of New Zealand's south island by Rosemary Bothwell.
The Drop/Teardrop
The drop is a stylised version of the toki as known in English as the Adze. The Toki had much meaning to the Maori, it was of course an essential tool for the survival and day to day life of a Maori tribe, it was usually fashioned from stone or greenstone. The Maori also attribute the spiritual meaning of Strengh and Power to the Toki.
Tangiwai Greenstone
Tangiwai Greenstone is a translucent olive-green which is very dark when held against the skin and shows its hidden depths when held to the light. Tangiwai comes from the Maori legend which relates to the petrifaction of the tears of a lamenting woman.
The Pendant comes with a black waxed adjustable cord, velvet pouch and meaning card.
