Tahi Koru Sterling Silver Pendant
This pendant is sterling silver and is from the Koru family which means the fern and represents growth. This particular piece is called Para which is Maori for King Fern.
The pendant is 925 sterling silver and measures 30mm (1.2 inch) tall and 30mm (1.2 inch) wide. The pendant and cord weigh 21g. The pendant is hung from a Leather cord. The pendant comes in a beautiful wooden presentation box with a meaning card.
This piece is from the Tahi Jewellery collection. Tahi Jewellery is modern and contemporary, and is based on traditional tribal design. The collection has been designed by Kerry Thompson.
Kerry Thompson
Kerry Thompson has been carving for 25 years. He has established his position as the leading Maori artist working in the bone medium and has developed an immediately recognisable style which sets his work apart.
Koru
The koru is the Maori name given to the new unfurling fern frond and symbolises new life, growth, strength.
The koru depicts new beginnings, growth and harmony, strength and peace. The Koru is taken from the symbolism of a new unfurling fern frond. It is an integral symbol on Maori carving and tattoos and is an iconic symbol of New Zealand.
No matter what stage we are at in life, we continue to grow, whether that be physically, mentally or spiritually.
When someone gives a pendant to someone else, it is the custom that the giver wears it for a time so that part of their spirit is given as well.
