This is an incredible piece of New Zealand Tangiwai Greenstone. This piece has been carved into a stylised Manaia.

Tangiwai Greenstone is a translucent olive-green, the stone is found mainly near the entrance to Milford Sound in the South Island of New Zealand. Tangiwai comes from the Maori legend which relates to the petrification of the tears of a lamenting woman.

This piece was carved in Blenheim in the top of the south island of New Zealand.

The piece measures 65mm (2.5 inches) wide by 35mm (1.4 inches) tall and 4mm (.15 inches) deep. It comes with a black waxed adjustable cord, velvet pouch and meaning card.

Manaia

The Manaia is traditionaly depicted with the head of a bird, the body of a man and tail of a fish, it is said to represent the sky ,earth and sea and the balance between. It is likened to a bird on your sholder protecting your spirit.
