Pounamu Greenstone Squiggle Pendant

By no means traditional, this squiggle design is contemporary and modern and reflects the humour of it's carver Terry urban.

The pendant comes on an adjustable waxed cord in a velvet pouch and measures 70mm long and 15mm wide.

The squiggle is made from South Westland Greenstone which is found on the west coast of New Zealand's south Island. Greenstone, pounamu and New Zealand jade are all names given to this highly valued stone. Greenstone is the most commonly used name to describe the stone however the more traditional Maori name pounamu is becoming more popular.

It has been carved by local artist Terry Urban. Terry began carving wood and bone before switching to greenstone. He moved to Nelson which is considered to be the home of Pounamu / Greenstone. Nelson is located at the top of the south island of New Zealand.

Terry Urban's designs are filled with his passion, his love of the stone and of course his own personality.
