Koru Deer Bone Pendant

A wonderful koru styled pendant made from natural deer bone. The pendant is 45mm in diameter and comes in a black presentation box with a waxed black cord. The cord has a deer bone toggle on the end. The deer bone button which the pendant has been carved from also comes with the pendant.

The pendant is in the style of the koru, the koru looks like the fern frond which is found all over New Zealand. This symbol, the koru is known to represent tranquillity and peace, it is also associated with growth and change.

The pendant itself is made from deer bone, however it is bone taken from the antlers of the deer. Deer farming is big in New Zealand and there are many by products from this industry, one of these is the antlers from deer which they shed naturally each year. They grow another, larger set in time for the next breeeding season. The antlers grow from the head of the deer from a place called the bud, this bud remains covered by a piece of bone until the new antlers are ready to grow. When the time is right, the button or coronet is shed and the new antlers grow.
