The Mere / Patu
The Mere featured here is also known as a patu or waihaka. It was usually fashioned from greenstone, bone or wood and was used in hand to hand combat by skilled maori warriors. Today it represents strength, power and the ability to overcome great barriers.
This piece measures 380mm/15 inch long and 115mm/4.5 inches wide.
