Marsden Flower Greenstone Hei Toki Pendant

An unusual piece of Marsden Flower Greenstone greenstone from the south island of New Zealand. The pendant is suspended off a fully adjustable waxed nylon cord fitted. The pendant is carved from an unusual piece of Marsden Flower Jade, the piece of Marsden greenstone has fantastic colours and gradients from yellow to dark green. It has a polished finish.

This pendant is in the style of a Toki of the Maori Adze, or Toki Pou Tangata. Traditionally the Maori Adze was used as a large chisel to tool used for smoothing rough-cut wood in hand woodworking, however in wartimes the adze or toki are known to have been used by Maori warriors. The Maori also attribute the spiritual meaning of Strength and Power to the Toki.

This Toki is a one off unique piece and will not be available again.

This amazing pendant was hand carved on the Marsden of New Zealand in Hokitika by master carver Glen Surgenor. Glen Surgenor has been carving greenstone for over 25 years. Glen uses traditional methods when carving, using traditional sand stone rubbing methods and hand sanding to a matte/satin sheen. This piece has a great antique look and nice artefact feel.

The piece measures 72mm (2.9 inches) long by 32mm (1.3 inch) wide and 4mm (0.16 inches) deep. It comes with a velvet pouch and meaning card.
